India is free of polioi!
Now it is official: for a year, in India no new polio case was reported, thus India is considered to be Polio free. Without the initiative of Rotary International and the so many hands on actions this would not have been possible. Also, RFAD made a small contribution to this success. A more detailed report in Economist in with the headline A Rotary engine -Can a businessmen’s club eradicate polio from the world?.

Rodney Mazinter from South-Afrika invites all TRF-Alumni of the educational programs who had their stay in South Africa to take part in an Alumni Reunion in Cape Town on 3, 4 und 5 Februar 2011. President of RI Ray Klinginsmith, who accomplished his studies as Ambassadorial Scholar in South Africa as well, will join the meeting. Peter KyleThe Rotary Foundation Trustees are very pleased to announce the selection of Rotarian Peter Kyle as the recipient of the 2009-10 Global Alumni Service to Humanity Award.

Peter is an international attorney in Washington, DC. He recently retired as lead counsel for the World Bank and is currently still consulting for the bank. He worked on more than 100 international development projects in a wide variety of countries during his career with the bank, advising them on their legal infrastructure to foster a stronger economy. As the district alumni subcommittee chair for District 7620, he made exceptional efforts in connecting Foundation alumni in the area. He also served at the RI representative to the World Bank and has been very active with Outward Bound.

Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator Joe Mulkerrin and Rotary Foundation Alumni Coordinator Tom Payne of Zone 33 served as nominators for his award.

The award will be presented to Peter during a plenary session on Tuesday, 22 June at the 2010 RI Convention in Montréal, Canada.

The Rotary-United Nations-Day shall take place on November 7, 2009 commencing 9:30 until 16:30 at the United Nations Headquarter in New York. Registration is possible until 23. October 2009. This unique opportunity will offer both a visit to the United Nations Headquarters in New York City and participation in panel discussions featuring leaders and officials from the United Nations, UN affiliated Non Governmental Organizations (NGO's) and Rotary International. Lunch is included in the registration fee and will be served in the main United Nations Cafeteria overlooking the East River. Registration fee for current Ambassadorial Scholars and Peace Scholars will be U.S.-$ 20,00, otherwise U.S.-$ 37,50.. Detailed information you will find here.
